N’Jami is a chorus group based in Okinawa that sings Okinawan and world folk songs. The group was formed in August 2005 with 17 members. The name N’Jami came from traditional sea festival, “Njyami” held at various locations throughout Okinawa. The group expresses a sense of nostalgia and wonder in their chorus of traditional folk songs passed down from old times. Recently, the group has expanded its musical career to sing ethnic music including Kechak of Indonesia and folk songs from Thailand, Malaysia, and Fiji in South Pacific Ocean. In 2007, the group was designated by an NPO, Sing Out Asia, as the Japanese ambassador of friendship and has performed in various Asian countries and regions. So far, the group performed twice in Taiwan and Jakarta, and in July 2011, performed in Taiwan and Malaysia.
