Ms. Sunakawa is from Miyakojima and currently resides in Okinawa prefecture. She made her debut in 2006 and has released seven CDs so far. Her single, Hitotsubu no Tane, which was released in February 2009, was written inspired by the words of a terminal cancer patient. The story of the patient was shared among the people of Miyakojima and the song was born. After being broadcasted as a documentary program, the song, which is based on a true story and sung with her deep and gentle voice, came to be known nationally. The song ranked at the top in annual sales in Okinawa for two years in 2009 and 2010, and a book and a movie were made based on the song. Ms. Sunakawa currently engages in a project called the Smile Seed Project, where she holds mini concerts at schools, hospitals, and welfare institutions and sings Hitotsubu no Tane among others. Through the project, she has visited almost 500 locations and has met more than 50,000 people. She is a unique singer and has worked as a caretaker in the past.
